Concord University’s Stuff the Bus volunteers are busy this summer collecting school supplies for children in southern West Virginia.

Donations are now being collected at Concord’s Athens and Beckley campuses, with two large collection dates for the upcoming school year scheduled at the Beckley Walmart on Friday, July 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 1 from noon to 3 p.m.

Individuals who donate $5 or more of school supplies or cash through 3 p.m. on Aug. 1 will be entered to win a $500 Walmart gift card. For a donation of $2 individuals will be entered to win a ticket for white water rafting or zip lining.

Stuff the Bus is also returning to the Athens-Concord Town Social again this year. According to organizer Pam Wallace, for a $5 donation at the Town Social, contributors will be entered in a drawing for a $100 Walmart gift card. The Town Social is being held on Sunday, Aug. 16 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Concord’s front lawn.

Coordinated by Concord’s Beckley campus, Stuff the Bus provides classroom basics from pencils, notebooks and pens, to crayons, colored pencils and backpacks for students in need. This is the third year Concord has participated in the project.

Along with donations from Concord students, faculty and staff, Stuff the Bus receives generous community support from individuals, organizations and area businesses. Business sponsorship levels are available.
