Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College will offer Direct Patient Care training designed for participants seeking entry into the health care field. The class will be held from March 28 to May 3, 2014. Interested individuals are invited to attend an informational session on March 6th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm to meet the instructor, meet potential employers, and apply for financial assistance.
The Direct Patient Care course prepares individuals to work closely with patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. Students learn to provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses and are vital to daily operations of a nursing care or hospital facility. This course meets all West Virginia state code requirements for certified nursing assistant.
The class includes: understanding body structure, function and mechanics; hygiene and infection control; use of assistive devices; safety and comfort; and work ethics of a professional member of the nursing and healthcare team. Students become familiar with direct patient care including bathing, grooming, feeding and transferring patients, assisting nurses with medical equipment, checking patient vital signs, and providing social and emotional support.
Attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, March 6, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 where the training instructor will be available to answer your questions. Potential employers offering starting salaries over $10 per hour will be available to answer your questions. You may also register for the class and apply for financial aid at this session. This informational meeting will be held in Room 006 at Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College in South Charleston.
Classes will be held daily from March 28th to May 3, 2014at the KVCTC campus in South Charleston. Classroom training is March 28 to April 16 from 4:00 to 9:30 pm daily. Clinical training is April 17 to May 3 from 4:00 to 9:30 pm daily. Attendance is required at all sessions. Individuals with felonies or any abuse convictions will not be allowed to enroll in this program. Background checks and drug tests will be conducted.
The registration fee of $1,800 includes 65 hours of classroom instruction, 55 hours of clinical instruction, student uniform, immunizations, background checks, supplies, and one-time nursing assistant licensing exam. Limited financial aid is available to eligible individuals.
