Direct Patient Care Training to be Offered by Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College

Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College will offer a Direct Patient Care workshop designed for participants seeking entry into the health care field beginning March 25, 2013.

The Direct Patient Care course prepares individuals to work closely with patients under the supervision of a registered nurse.  Students learn to provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses and are vital to daily operations of a nursing care or hospital facility. This course meets all West Virginia state code requirements for certified nursing assistant.

The class includes: understanding body structure, function and mechanics; hygiene and infection control; use of assistive devices; safety and comfort; and work ethics of a professional member of the nursing and healthcare team.  Students become familiar with direct patient care including bathing, grooming, feeding and transferring patients, assisting nurses with medical equipment, checking patient vital signs, and providing social and emotional support.

The registration fee of $1,800 includes 65 hours of classroom instruction, 55 hours of clinical instruction, student uniform, immunizations, background checks, supplies, and one-time nursing assistant licensing exam.  Limited financial aid is available to eligible individuals.  Call 304-205-6662 immediately for information on Financial Aid.

Classes will be held daily from March 25th to May 3rd at the KVCTC campus in South Charleston. Classroom training is March 25 to April 18 from 8:45 am to 12:45 pm daily.  Clinical training is April 19 to May 3 from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm daily.   Attendance is required at all sessions.  Individuals with felonies or any abuse convictions will not be allowed to enroll in this program. Background checks and drug tests will be conducted.
