In May, The Education Alliance launched a new education-based speaker series called EDTalks: Connecting Education, Jobs and Our Future. EDTalks brings the internationally renowned “TED Talks” philosophy to West Virginia by providing a lively series of networking and education forums designed to engage business, education, and community leaders in public education issues.

The EDTalks series kicked off in Morgantown in May and was followed by an EDTalk in the eastern panhandle that took place June 18th in Charles Town. Approximately 250 business, community and education leaders attended the first two events which featured West Virginia University President, Dr. E. Gordon Gee; WVU Business Competition Winner, Sierra Cook; US Senator, Joe Manchin, III; 2014 West Virginia Teacher of the Year, Erin Sponaugle; and American Public University System President, Dr. Wallace E. Boston.

“The Education Alliance is excited to be part of the positive momentum as business, education and community leaders work together to strengthen the pipeline to future jobs in West Virginia.” said Dr. Amelia Courts, president and chief executive officer of The Education Alliance.  Participant survey results indicate the EDTalks were a tremendous success with 94% of participants rating the event “excellent/very good.”  Future EDTalk events will be held across West Virginia and will feature compelling presentations by cutting-edge speakers, professionals, and advocates along with ample time for conversation and networking.
