Energy Efficiency Workshops to Take Place in May

Two workshops focusing on improving energy efficiency in industrial, commercial and government facilities will be held in various locations around the state in the upcoming weeks.

The workshops are sponsored by the West Virginia University Industrial Assessment Center, WVU Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, and the West Virginia Division of Energy.

“Making our buildings and industries more energy efficient reduces unneeded expenses, saves jobs and improves their working environments and competitive positions,” said Division of Energy Director Jeff Herholdt.

The “Energy Efficiency in Commercial and Government Buildings” workshop will be held Friday, May 16 at the Cabela’s Conference Center in Triadelphia, WV. Registration is $30. Lunch will be provided. Building managers, operators, and maintenance personnel should attend.

Topics will include:

  • Energy basics
  • Overview of energy systems in buildings
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Operational considerations
  • Identifying recommendations and estimate savings
  • Additional 2014 locations for this workshop:
  • Beckley – June 12 – Beckley Convention Center
  • Charleston – June 26 – Cabela’s (Corridor G)
  • Martinsburg – July 17 – Holiday Inn

The first “Industrial Energy Efficiency Best Practices” workshop will be held Thursday, May 15, also at Cabela’s in Triadelphia. Registration is $30. Lunch will be provided.

Plant engineers, maintenance personnel, and supervisors should attend. Coursework will cover energy efficiency measures applicable to industrial facilities and building energy efficiency. It will provide a solid understanding of practical energy efficiency measures that can be applied to facilities.

Topics will include:

  • Energy systems in process heating, steam systems, and compressed air systems
  • Energy efficiency measures for industrial facilities
  • Introduction to energy management
  • Introduction to AMO technology deployment software tools
