Fifth Third Bank Launches Awareness and Fundraising Drive

Fifth Third Bank is making a difference in the community by conducting a fundraising campaign to benefit Mountain Mission in Charleston, Facing Hunger Food Bank in Huntington, and River City Harvest in Ashland during a month-long campaign, running from April 1 to May 3.

“Fifth Third Bank is committed to helping the community and there is a real need for food pantry donations at this time due to the difficult economical times and the fact that no one can plan for or predict catastrophic events such as floods, storms, medical circumstances, and other unforeseen events that families might endure,” said Bob Welty, West Virginia President for Fifth Third Bank, Central Ohio affiliate.

Fifth Third Bank will utilize its 11 banking centers in the Tri-State Area to:

–              Sell “paper plates” (symbolizing “Feeding our Communities” logo) for $1.00

–              For each person who makes $1.00 donation to these area food banks, their $1.00 goes a long way to providing meals for families in need:

–              Mountain Mission (Charleston):  $1.00 = 4 meals

–              Facing Hunger Food Bank (Huntington):  $1.00 = 7 meals

–              River City Harvest (Ashland):  $1.00 = 9 meals

Donations will be collected through the bank’s own holiday — Fifth Third Day, May 3, or 5/3 on the calendar – by recognizing employees, thanking customers and, most importantly, supporting the communities in which it operates.  Because Fifth Third understands the impact living with hunger can have on individuals and the community, it has dedicated its celebration for 2014 to fighting hunger across its footprint.

During the week of May 3, Fifth Third employees will show their commitment to ending hunger in a variety of ways, including raising funds for local food pantries, hosting canned food drives and volunteering at community gardens that donate produce to local soup kitchens.  The specific activities will vary by location, but the focus will remain the same – to feed those in need.

Fifth Third Bank is conducting similar food drive campaigns throughout its 12-state footprint in the United States, with the goal to provide 530,000 meals to those in need, in respect to Fifth Third Day.
