Active Southern West Virginia is proud to present the first ever running event across the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville, West Virginia. The Active SWV Bridge Day© 5K, benefiting Active SWV Kids Running Clubs, will take place on October 15, 2016.

One hundred participants will begin on the north side of the New River Gorge Bridge with a police escort across the 876 ft tall bridge in a closed lane. Racers will exit the event onto town streets, make one lap around Fayetteville Town Park, and finish beside the Historic Fayette County Court House.

Funds raised by this event will directly benefit Active SWV Kids Run programs in Nicholas, Fayette, Raleigh, and Summers Counties. Elementary and Middle Schools are seeing the benefits of increased physical and mental health through school running clubs. Active SWV facilitates the coaches training needed to confidently lead area youth into a lifestyle of physical activity. “Most of the time our schools just need the opportunity with some guidance to start a run club. We see the program growing rapidly and need additional fundraising,” says Melanie Seiler, Executive Director of Active Southern West Virginia.

Additional donations can be made, sponsors can still contribute, and volunteers are needed for street crossings along the route. All of these efforts provide opportunity for improving health in southern West Virginia. Contact the Active SWV office at (304) 254-8488 or Melanie@activeswv.com.
