The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy will host the first inter-professional convocation at UC featuring the School of Pharmacy, Physician Assistant Program, School of Nursing and Athletic Training Program Tuesday, March 22, 2016 in the Geary Auditorium at 11:00 am. The topic will be a discussion on substance abuse-including opioids, and the role of the healthcare team in addressing this issue. In addition to the discussion, healthcare professions students will identify potential roles they can and should play in this national public health epidemic.

Following the convocation, an invitation only luncheon will be held in the Erma Byrd Gallery for healthcare professions students who are interested in delving deeper into the topic. Guest speakers WV Delegate Don Perdue (D-Wayne) and former WV Senator Dr. Dan Foster will provide their perspectives on this problem.

Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin will be unable to attend the event due to scheduling. Senator Capito will provide video commentary at the luncheon. Senator Joe Manchin will visit campus at a later date to provide his  insight.
