Robinson & McElwee is pleased to announce that Karen Price has joined the firm’s government relations practice as a legislative and business development liaison. Price previously served as the president of the West Virginia Manufacturer’s Association (WVMA), the only statewide organization that exclusively serves the manufacturing community in West Virginia. In her new role, Price will continue her life-long dedication to West Virginia’s economic development by promoting and protecting clients’ interests in doing business in the Mountain State.
“Karen brings an impressive blend of industry knowledge and hands-on experience with public policy, policy design and legislative strategy,” said Kent George, Robinson & McElwee’s managing member. “Her strengths complement our practice capabilities, and will enhance the industry insights we offer our clients while elevating our position in the marketplace.”
Price is recognized as a leader in the manufacturing industry with over 22 years of service as the WVMA’s president and over decade of experience in economic development as a member of the West Virginia Economic Development Office. She has worked with numerous governors, the West Virginia Legislature and various regulatory agencies to address economic development barriers in the state. Under Price’s direction, the WVMA has ushered in policies that enhance economic growth in the region, including the Marcellus Development Act of 2011. This act has been a significant factor in Brazil-based Odebrecht’s exploration of a multi-billion-dollar ethane cracker chemical plant in Wood County. Additional career highlights include the establishment of a manufacturing inventory tax credit which resulted in over $20 million of savings for West Virginia manufacturers, and a reform to the State Workers’ Compensation Program which resulted in the privatization of the program.

A life-long resident of West Virginia, Price earned her bachelor’s degree from Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston). She has the distinction of being recognized as a “Woman of Achievement,” by the YWCA of Charleston. Additionally, her talents have been recognized through the many leadership positions that she has held including, Vandalia Rotary (past President); WV Business and Industry Council (past Chair); American Society Association Executives, West Virginia (Member and past President); Charleston Area Medical Center Board of Trustees (Member) and Public Policy and Planning Committee (Chair); Bridgemont Community College (Board member); Business Volunteer Council (Member); DEP advisory council ( former Member); West Virginia Economic Development Council (Honorary Life Member); Reconnecting McDowell (Board Member); and Commission on School Governance (Member).
