Organizing events, triumphs, and travel in a scrapbook preserves memorable times for a person or family. “We live in a new age of digital storage and that’s great, but there is a comfort and personal attachment to pieces of paper, pictures and special ribbons or mementos arranged in a scrapbook that connects with people in our lives and events remembered,” said Ken Zebo, activities coordinator at North Bend State Park.

A scrapbooking weekend is planned April 12-14 to help scrapbooking beginners get started and to motivate others who are looking for that nudge to complete unfinished projects. The weekend is full of activities, but instructors set a relaxed pace that allows time for project work.

Michelle Mills of Parkersburg and Vickie Crawford of Washington, W.Va., are the weekend instructors. In addition to new techniques and demonstrations, the weekend includes a “scrapbook garage sale” that invites attendees to bring supplies no longer used or needed to sell among each other. Other activities include discussions about what’s hot and what’s not in scrapbooking tools. The weekend schedule also includes: Friday meet and greet, scrapping tools and gadgets, show and tell opportunities, card swap, and instruction. Attendees are encouraged to bring any supplies and equipment needed for projects and a small lamp for extra light.

Overnight packages for the weekend include two nights at North Bend State Park lodge, activities, and a beverage station for coffee, tea and water, and all taxes. Meals are not included in the package cost, but are available at North Bend Dining Room located at the lodge. For two people sharing a room the total cost is $215. A single occupancy room is $178.28. Rates for triple and quad occupancy and cabin options are available. For all weekend activities only, the cost is $50 per person. Advance registration is required.

North Bend State Park is located in Ritchie County near Cairo and Harrisville. The park is open year-round and features a 29-room lodge, dining room, nine vacation cabins, two campgrounds, special weekends, hiking trails, North Bend Lake and nearby North Bend Rail Trail.
