Fort New Salem will be open on June 9th  & 10th for our Annual Hammer In / Weekend of Workshops.

If you have always wanted to “learn how to do that” then this is the place to be  We have expanded our annual Blacksmith Hammer In to become a weekend of workshops. On June 9th we are open from 9—5 and on June 10h from 10-5.  Visitors will see blacksmith demonstrations as well as numerous artisans in various cabins. The tentative workshop lineup is

  • Blacksmithing
  • Basket making
  • Paper Marbling
  • Corn Husk Doll Making
  • Old time Music
  • Drawing

While there will be much going on, our feature for the weekend is blacksmithing. General admission to Fort New Salem is $5 for the event with visitors 10 & under admitted free.  The Fort will be open for general tours on each day to the public.

Individuals interested in receiving instruction on blacksmithing can register for a hands-on work shop. Past attendees have made wall hooks, spoons and forks. Registration is available on site. The workshops vary in length and fee. Workshop space is limited. Pre-registration is available. Visit our website for the current line-up and associated workshop fees.

Fort New Salem is conveniently located minutes off of US Rt. 50 at the Rt. 23 interchange.
