For the first time, leading health and well-being company Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) will offer a Medicare Advantage plan in the Charleston area for individuals who are covered by both Medicare and Medicaid, providing a wider array of options as West Virginians choose coverage during this year’s Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan Annual Election Period (AEP).

The AEP runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2019. Those who enroll in a Humana Medicare plan during that time will have coverage that takes effect Jan. 1, 2020.

In its 2020 offerings, Humana is pleased to introduce a Medicare Advantage Dual-Eligible Special Needs (D-SNP) plan for residents of Boone, Kanawha, Lincoln, and Putnam counties who are covered by both Medicare and Medicaid.  The $0 premium Gold Plus® HMO D-SNP plan offers prescription, dental, hearing, and vision coverage, as well as:

  • $0 copay for primary care physician and dentist office visits;
  • $0 copay for annual hearing and vision exams;
  • $125 Over-the-Counter (OTC) quarterly allowance, which can be spent on select OTC health and wellness products from Humana Pharmacy®, including first-aid supplies, aspirin, and cold and allergy medicine;
  • SilverSneakers, which provides memberships at participating fitness centers;
  • Go365TM, a wellness and rewards program designed to motivate and reward members for taking steps to maintain their health, like recommended wellness screenings, flu shots, and other healthy activities;
  • Humana Well Dine®, which provides nutritious meals to eligible members recovering from an inpatient stay in a hospital or skilled nursing facility.

“Humana is proud to offer a new plan option for West Virginians who live in the Charleston area and are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid,” said Eric Bohannon, Humana Regional President for Medicare in West Virginia.  “It’s critical that we help people find coverage that fits their individual health care needs, and we’re very pleased to deepen our commitment to the well-being of West Virginians.”

Enrollment in a D-SNP plan is possible both during the AEP, and during a special election period that allows for one enrollment or change each quarter during the first three quarters of the year (January through September).

For West Virginians who are Medicare-eligible only, Humana offers a variety of Medicare Advantage plan options in each of the state’s 55 counties, providing people with Medicare affordable alternatives to original Medicare alone, or original Medicare paired with a Medicare Supplement plan.  With Humana Medicare Advantage plans, members can enjoy all the benefits of original Medicare, as well as additional benefits and important financial protections for their health care costs.
