Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries, a national retro-themed diner chain, will open its newest location in Barboursville, WV on Monday, January 21.  The new restaurant is located at 21 Tanyard Station Drive in the new Tanyard Station retail development complex.

Hwy 55 is a diner with a full menu of American classics served in a fun, 1950’s dining atmosphere.  It features fresh, never frozen, hand-pattied hamburgers, cheesesteak sandwiches, salads and a wide variety of milkshakes and frozen custards.  Each location features a unique open kitchen in which customers can watch their meals being prepared.

The restaurant will be owned by Don and Lynda Downard and their daughter, Erin Downard.  The Downards have also owned the Hwy 55 restaurant in Huntington for the past two years.  Several months ago, Erin Downard worked with the Cabell Wayne Association of the Blind to print Braille menus for one of the restaurant’s visually impaired customers.

“Barboursville is a very family-friendly town and a great fit for a family restaurant such as Hwy 55,” said Erin Downard. “We have incorporated many vintage photos of Barboursville from the 1950’s to both pay homage to the town and be consistent the unique atmosphere of the restaurant.  With the addition of our newest location, customers on each side of Cabell County will be able to enjoy a Hwy 55 close to them.”

Hwy 55 opened its first restaurant in Goldsboro, NC in 1991.  The newest Barboursville restaurant will mark its second location in the state of West Virginia.
