University Healthcare Jefferson Medical Center recently participated in an Ebola Preparedness exercise to evaluate infection prevention and isolation plans in the emergency department.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continues to recommend screening of all patients and continuing evaluation and improvement of hospital and community Ebola plans. Jefferson Medical Center’s plan specifically addresses patient isolation practices, staff protective equipment donning and doffing, infection control/prevention, and patient transport.

Care to all patients in the emergency department remained uninterrupted and patients and visitors were notified of the exercise.  Observers from key community services attended and provided valuable feedback.
