As part of University Healthcare’s May 11-17 National Hospital Week celebration, Jefferson Medical Center held its second annual Community Days Health Fair Community Baby Shower on Saturday, May 17.

More than 100 participants including mothers and fathers-to-be, new moms and dads and their guests, attended this free educational event which was held at the hospital. Approximately 40 vendors participated as well, and the HealthNet 8 air ambulance helicopter was available for tours.

“All in attendance learned updated information about Jefferson Medical Center and its services as well as received vital information and community resources regarding parenting tips and raising children,” stated Arlene Fernandez-Anderson, director of clinical support and outreach services at Jefferson Medical Center. “What we have learned from this experience is that to raise a healthy child takes more than just a mother’s concern. It takes a network of services provided by the necessary agencies,” she added.

According to Fernandez-Anderson, participation from local businesses including some making donations added to the wonderful event. Those businesses included Birthright, ChickFilA, HealthNet 8, Jala Yoga, Beyond the Lens Photography, Martins Foods, River Riders, Royalicious Bakery, Sweet Frog, WalMart, Weiss Supermarkets, Gateway Home Care, and Coventry Healthcare. An infant car seat was donated by the Eastern Panhandle Safe Community Program and Ranson city police were available for car seat installations.

“We are happy with the turn out and are thankful to the vendors, participants, donors, staff, and volunteers to make this a successful event,” Fernandez-Anderson said.
