A country girl at heart, Kimberly Moyers gained many of the skills she uses as market president of First United Bank & Trust growing up on a farm in Preston County. The lessons she gleaned from her hard-working family—work smarter, not harder; don’t burn bridges, no matter how much you may want to; take pride in your accomplishments, but don’t allow them to define who you are; smile and be kind and be honest and trust your integrity to show through in everything you do—have helped her find success through humility and a strong work ethic.

During her childhood, Moyers’ grandparents owned and operated a Holstein dairy farm and a pick-your-own strawberry operation. “Growing up next door, I spent time playing with the barn kittens, picking strawberries and blueberries and driving the tractor to help my grandfather make hay,” she recalls. She was also an active member of the Aurora Pioneer 4-H Club, which not only gave her lifelong friends and led to some of her most cherished childhood memories but also provided unique opportunities to learn new skills. “From giving my first public speaking visual presentation at the age of 9 to representing West Virginia at the National 4-H Conference and National 4-H Congress as a teen, these experiences along with the support of my family helped expose me to more than what is typically available in a small, rural area.”

Moyers’ involvement in 4-H led her to her first job and sparked her interest in the marketing field. “From the ages of 10-17, I raised and showed registered Holstein dairy heifers through 4-H,” she says. “This involvement is what led me to try out for and win the title of West Virginia Dairy Princess. This was also when the ‘Got Milk?’ advertising campaign gained its fame and the promotion began for a new milk product, Moo Kooler. While I was traveling throughout the Mountain State representing the dairy industry, I was fortunate to attend events and work alongside many of the marketing associates involved with the promotion of these campaigns. Because of this, I decided to pursue a degree in marketing while becoming the fourth consecutive generation in my family to graduate from West Virginia University.”

After 11 years at First United, Moyers remains focused on not only doing her best but also working with her team, empowering them to want to be more and do more. She continues to live by the basic principle that being kind and successful are not mutually exclusive, which stems from exemplifying the 4-H motto of “making the best better.” “I give back to my community because it’s the right thing to do and to help better our communities for the next generation,” she says. “It’s important to understand the need to give what you can and not be too proud to accept help when you need it.”

Moyers sits on the American Bankers Association Commercial Lending School’s advisory board, the Monongalia County Development Authority board of directors and the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties’ board of directors, where she is a member of the citizens’ review committee and a liaison for the agency relations committee. She serves on the Special Olympics West Virginia Polar Plunge committee and the West Virginia Dairy Princess Committee, and she is a member of the Women’s Innovative Networking Group and the assistant leader of the Cheat Lake Sailors 4-H Club.

The advice Moyers would give her younger self is advice anyone, regardless of age or profession, could benefit from hearing. “No matter what you do in life and no matter who you meet, you can’t please everyone,” she says. “Be yourself, be kind, work smart and let the chips fall as they may. There are too many things in life you cannot control, and the sooner you can understand that and let negativity roll off your shoulders, the happier you will be. Confide in those you trust and move forward without looking back because holding grudges will only end up leaving you frustrated. Live in the moment and pause to enjoy life’s simplicities.”
