The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI) is presenting a public course on Lean Six Sigma Green Belt through SAI Global. Scheduled at RCBI Huntington, the course will span 10 days (two five-day blocks over a two-month timeframe).

Lean Manufacturing is a growing business practice that focuses on removing “non-value added” activities from your core business. Our course covers practices that can result in shorter lead time, increased productivity, less capital tied up in inventory and fewer quality rejects. The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt method relies on a collaborative team approach to meet precise customer requirements, eliminate waste and defects, and improve the efficiency of processes.

Course Description:
Week 1 will provide an in depth review of Lean Six Sigma and how it applies to various organizations by focusing on the DMAIC (Define – Measure – Analyze – Improve – Control) process improvement strategy.

Week 2 will focus on Analyzing the Opportunity to start defining the potential causes of variation.  A variety of tools and techniques will be presented for interpreting data displays, comparing data, determining root causes, and identifying sources of variation.

The course is highly interactive and requires each participant to select a project on which to work during the course. The project must be completed and reviewed by the instructor (a Certified Black Belt) no later than six months after completion of the course. This review is required for the participant to receive Green Belt Certification. A test is scheduled both Thursdays and each requires a minimum score of 80 percent.

Each participant is required to bring a laptop and purchase Minitab Statistical Software ($700 for a one-year license through RCBI, or a perpetual copy directly through Minitab for $1,495). No purchase is required if the participant currently owns the software package. All course manuals and notes, certificates of completion and CEUs are included in the course fee.  An additional fee covering coaching support and Certification will be required for participants who choose to obtain Green Belt Certification; additional information about Certification will be provided during the course.
