Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown broke ground in November 2013 on major renovations to its facility that will include a licensed Memory Care unit for Alzheimer’s and dementia residents, a Post-Acute Care unit (for short-term rehabilitation), and an Extended Care unit. The renovations will add approximately 40 private rooms and over 25,000 square feet of space.

When completed, Mapleshire will have the only Memory Care unit in the area. There are currently no licensed Alzheimer’s nursing units in Monongalia County. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are more than 450 residents with the known diagnoses in the county.

The Memory Care unit will consist of 24 beds, with 8 private and 8 semi-private rooms. It will also include a living, dining, activity space, bathing suites and an enclosed outside courtyard. While construction of this unit is scheduled to be completed by mid-year, the facility is not expected to be licensed and opened until the fall.

“There comes a time when a person with Alzheimer’s or dementia needs very specialized care that they can’t receive at home or in a traditional nursing home,” said Larry Pack, Managing Member of Stonerise Healthcare. “Our new unit will be a place where those affected by these diseases can receive professional, around-the-clock care in a home-like atmosphere.”

Mapleshire’s Post-Acute Care unit will be created using existing space, plus an addition of approximately 1,296 square feet. The unit will have a total of 24 private rooms, new therapy gym and separate living and dining space. It will serve patients who are at the center for 100 days or less. Services will include therapy (PT, OT and Speech) following surgery, accidents, joint replacements, strokes, heart surgery, as well as advanced nursing/clinical care due to unstable conditions or following an acute illness.

In addition, Mapleshire will establish an Extended Care unit using existing space as well as approximately 10,000 square feet of new space created during the construction. The renovations will include a courtyard, which will provide a safe outdoor retreat for the residents.

Mapleshire, owned and managed by Stonerise Healthcare, has a 5 Star Quality Rating, the highest overall rating from the Federal Government’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
