The Huntington Area Art Society spring lecture series continues with “The Southern Renaissance: Style and Power in Quattrocento Florence,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Cellar Door, 905 Third Ave.

The session will be led by Dr. Heather Stark, program director and assistant professor with Marshall University’s School of Art and Design.

“The Renaissance offers topics of ever-enduring interest, and I, for one, can’t wait to hear Dr. Stark’s take on Style and Power during that formative era,” said Sandra Reed, director of Marshall’s School of Art and Design.

Art society patrons can also enjoy extended hours at the university’s Visual Arts Center Gallery, according to Reed. Gallery Director Megan Schultz will be available from 5 to 6 p.m. to discuss works in the 5th Annual National Juried Exhibition, which ends its run Friday, Feb. 12.

“We offer this special chance for patrons to view the diverse works selected by Geoff Fleming, executive director of the Huntington Museum of Art, before they are shipped back to the artists,” Reed said.

In addition, members of Marshall’s student clay club, Keramos, will present their work for purchase in the foyer of the Visual Arts Center, also until 6 p.m. The students are raising funds to travel to Kansas City, Missouri, in March to attend a conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, Reed said.

Although community members are welcome to attend the extended hours and Keramos sale, the Huntington Area Art Society lecture series costs $10 per session, payable by check to MU School of Art and Design. Seating for the lectures is limited.

The series will continue March 9 and conclude April 13. A new lecture series for Huntington Area Art Society is planned for the summer. For more information about the Huntington Area Art Society, call Marshall’s School of Art and Design at 304-696-7299.
