Marshall University President Jerome A. Gilbert issued the following statement regarding the passing of faculty member Dr. Harold Blanco following a bicycling accident.

“This is a loss for all of us at Marshall. Harold was an important part of our university family. Even though I did not have the pleasure of knowing Harold, I learned a great deal about him from his family and friends this week and know how special he was to so many people. My sincere sympathies go out to all who knew and loved him.”

A Marshall graduate and native of Caracas, Venezuela, Blanco was an associate professor in Marshall’s College of Education and Professional Development. He also taught at St. Joseph Catholic School in Huntington.

Family members encourage friends and acquaintances to join them for a celebration of life at the Union Pub and Grill at 1145 4th Avenue in Huntington on March 31 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/events/1975633649328995.
