The Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce recently held its annual dinner to recognize community members and businesses who have made a positive impact on Berkeley County.
“The event is especially important since the winners are typically people who do not seek recognition for their efforts toward supporting the community” said Tina Combs, chamber president and CEO.
Clarence E. “CEM” Martin III, received the C. Leslie Golliday Business Person of the Year award, a recognition he said he was honored and speechless to receive.
“I can’t tell you how truly honored I am to receive this award. I don’t think anything means as much as being recognized by the people you work with and interact with on a daily basis, because they know you better than anyone else does” Martin said.
Criteria for this special award states that the recipient must be a member of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce, have a documented record of community support and involvement, be affiliated with a business that had its origin in Berkeley County and has been in business for a minimum of five years. Mr. Martin was presented with a plaque and a certificate of recognition from Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.
“There’s such a sense of community here, you can just feel it. It always boils down to the people, so it’s important that we recognize those folks who do the things that make this community great,” Combs said.
