The Morgantown Marathon Executive committee is proud to announce their partnership with MVB Bank for 2016. MVB Bank was a sponsor for the inaugural marathon weekend in 2015, and through the energy and excitement of that initial event, elected to come aboard as the Race Purse Sponsor for the 2nd Annual WVU Medicine Morgantown Marathon Weekend. Only in its second year, with a Race Purse of over $5,500.00 being provided to the winners of the Tour Morgantown Full Marathon and the Morgantown Thirteener, this puts it on par with a number of larger events around America and establishes its presence in the region as a premier event seeking elite level runners.

The Inaugural Morgantown Marathon Weekend Experience in 2015 attracted runners worldwide, from six countries such as Australia and Singapore, and from 36 states around the country. Runners for the Full Marathon traversed all seven of the city’s wards, experiencing both the challenge of the course, and the beauty of our great community and state. With registration having been opened for a little over a month, runners from 15 states, as well as Canada, have already registered to participate this September 17-18.

Prize Money for the Tour Morgantown Full Marathon presented by the Greater Morgantown CVB includes prizes of $1000, $500 and $250 to both the men’s and women’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. The Morgantown Thirteener has a purse of $500, $250 and $100 going to both the men’s and women’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

There is also a special $155 prize for both the 1st Men’s and Women’s runner who is from West Virginia to cross the line of the Full Marathon, with the “55” signifying the 55 counties in the state.

The Morgantown Marathon will also specifically serve to raise awareness and support for the ever increasing veteran population in West Virginia by supporting Operation Welcome Home, a facility and program “For Veterans, By Veterans,” located in Mylan Park in Morgantown West Virginia.
