On Saturday, April 12, Marshall University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will extend a charitable hand to the Huntington community by hosting a charity gala in order to provide funds for the advancement of the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. The event will take place in the atrium of the Cabell Huntington Hospital starting at 5 p.m.

The Marshall University PRSSA has been an active student organization on campus for 35 years and takes pride in its role in the advancement of young professionals in the public relations field and beyond. The current members of the PRSSA desire to celebrate the organization’s success by hosting an event in which Marshall students and faculty can show their deep care and appreciation for the Huntington community and make a difference in the lives of those people seeking care and hope within the Hoops hospital.

The “Herd For Hoops Charity Gala” will include a short reception with food and beverage, an induction ceremony for new members joining the PRSSA, a silent auction, a children’s book drive, and live entertainment that will feature a local musician and a modern dance performance by JESLYN Performing Arts Center.

“We knew we had to go big to celebrate the chapter’s 35th birthday. We all agreed that there was no better way to celebrate than to give back to the community,” said Courtney Sealey, senior PRSSA member at Marshall University. “Since the children’s hospital is so new, we figured it would be a great partnership. It gives us a chance to do something great for the community and educate ourselves about their work as well.”

Tickets to this event will be $35 for the public and $20 for students who present their Marshall University identification cards. The proceeds collected from this event will be turned over to hospital administration in order to enable the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital to continue to provide quality and comprehensive care to young people from the Tri-State area. Business and private donations are currently being accepted.
