My Bank! First United Bank & Trust, launched a shoe drive in late February 2014 with an original goal of collecting 3,000 pairs of shoes to provide relief to families in need.  Used and new shoes were dropped off at My Bank branch locations and supporting community locations.  The unbelievable generosity of the local communities and businesses helped the company surpass all goals and expectations, by ten-fold, collecting an amazing 33,001 pairs of shoes!

The shoes collected by First United were delivered to Soles4Souls, an international anti-poverty organization that monetizes used shoes and clothing to create sustainable jobs and fund direct relief efforts, including distribution of new shoes and clothing.   Founded in 2007, the organization has distributed more than 25 million shoes in well over 100 countries.

“First United supported Soles4Souls because it is the definition of a social enterprise where solid business practices are used to create positive change in people’s lives,” said Carissa Rodeheaver, President and Chief Financial Officer of First United.   “My Bank is a strong supporter of Soles4Souls’ anti-poverty mission, and we have taken a big step in providing the organization with the used shoes they require to keep making a difference for people in need.  We would like to thank all those that donated and made this shoe drive an overwhelming success!”

The local distribution of 70 NEW pairs of shoes was recently provided by First United to the Scott’s Run Settlement House.  “This generous donation by First United allowed Scott’s Run Settlement House to distribute 70 brand new pairs of shoes to children in need. It is truly a gift for us to be able to help meet this most basic need. On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Scott’s Run Settlement House, I want to thank My Bank! First United for this amazing contribution to our community,” said Shay Petitto, Executive Director of SRSH.
