The West Virginia Development Office invites nonprofits and community groups to register for a workshop on the 2017 Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) tax credit voucher program.

The workshop is mandatory for both new and returning participants and covers applying for and participating in the program. The deadline to register for one of three scheduled workshops is Tuesday, May 10. To register, visit WVDO.org/NIP.

The NIP was established by the West Virginia Legislature to encourage investment in local projects benefiting low-income populations or distressed communities via tax credit vouchers they can distribute to donors. The vouchers enable businesses and individuals to reduce certain state taxes.

To participate, qualified 501(c)3 organizations or project sponsors must apply to the West Virginia Development Office. After scoring and certification by the NIP Advisory Board, the nonprofit organizations or project sponsors are awarded vouchers based on their score.

The workshop dates and locations are:

  • Monday, May 16, Tamarack, One Tamarack Park, Beckley
  • Tuesday, May 17, Waterfront Place Hotel, 1 Waterfront Place, Morgantown
  • Thursday, May 19, Charleston Marriott, 200 Lee St. E. in Charleston.

For all three workshops, on-site check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. Workshops begin promptly at 1 p.m.

The workshops explain the benefits of the NIP program and coach attendees on how to successfully complete the program application and record keeping requirements.

Application guidelines and instructions will be made available during the workshop and will also be available after the workshop on the website WVDO.org/NIP. The deadline to submit a completed NIP Fiscal Year 2017 application is June 30, 2016. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. that day in order to be considered.
