PACE Shredding & MyBank! Team to Protect Against Identity Theft

A Community Shred Day will be held September 25 in Morgantown so people can safely dispose of sensitive documents and better protect themselves against identity theft.

The event, sponsored by My Bank!  First United Bank & Trust and PACE Shredding, will be held at My Bank! Sabraton community office from 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesday, September 25.  Local residents are invited to drive to the Sabraton branch and place their documents inside locked containers that will be lined up outside.

My Bank! officials say shredding is the best way to dispose of credit card and financial statements, old tax forms, pre-approved credit card offers, bills, checks, documents with personal identification numbers and expired passports. 

Shredding services will be provided by PACE Shredding who will place containers outside the bank for documents that should be shredded.  Then, trucks will transport the secure locked containers to a secure shredding facility in Morgantown.  Once inside the tightly guarded shredding room, documents are co-mingled in preparation for shredding (a security feature to ensure that final baled material cannot be reconstructed) and contaminants, such as metal, are removed.  Confidential documents are shred to 5/16” strips and then baled.  After being placed in 1500 pound bales, the material is released to a paper company for recycling.

Up to six boxes per person will be accepted. Staples, paper clips, hanging folders and rubber bands are acceptable. Three-ring binders must be removed.

All the shredded material will be recycled at the end of the event.
