Pipestem Resort State Park Announces 2016 Summer Amphitheater Series

From Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr. to Beach Nite Band to storyteller/liar Bil Lepp, visitors to Pipestem Resort State Park are invited to enjoy cool summer evenings with outdoor amphitheater entertainment.

“We’re all over the place with great performances and performers,” said Kim Hawkins, Pipestem’s activities coordinator. “We have plays for all ages, a wide variety of live musical performers, and even some educational, entertaining programs.”

Most shows are scheduled for Saturday evenings from June 4 through Sept. 3 and begin at 8 p.m. Fee-based shows are $8 for adults, half price for youth 6-12 and free for children ages 5 and younger. Several shows are free, as indicated on the event schedule.

The 2016 schedule at Pipestem State Park Amphitheater includes:

June 4 – Disney’s Beauty and The Beast Jr.
K.I.D.S. Youth from elementary schools in Summers County perform this beloved stage show beginning at 7 p.m.

June 11 – Legally Blonde Jr.
K.I.D.S. Youth from middle and high schools in the Summers County perform this romantic comedy. Proceeds are shared with the K.I.D.S. Youth program to support the performing arts in Summers County.

June 18 – Chloe Florence
A vibrant, young vocalist, Chloe Florence performs a blend of country, modern, folk and original music. Chloe’s singing style is described as country meets coffee house with a powerful execution and depth of feeling.

July 2 – Lou Maiuri: Let’s Square-dance! with the Appalachian Country Cloggers
Circle up! It’s an evening with caller Lou Maiuri for square-dancing and line-dancing fun. Event is free of charge.

July 9 – Beach Nite Band
The Beach Nite Band, with its Carolina beach music tradition, is a quartet featuring three vocalists, two keyboards, two brass instruments and drums – a combination that echoes big band and other sounds including rhythm and blues, disco, blues, Boogie and oldies.

July 16 – Sugar Run Band
Unlike many bands that label themselves as old-time, bluegrass, country, gospel, etc., Sugar Run offers an eclectic mix of those and other styles of music from the rural South.

July 23 – Clinton Collins
Clinton Collins, either as a solo artist or with his band, presents a unique blend of Americana music, along with original, creative songwriting.

July 30 – The Carl Acuff, Jr. Show
Since 1992, the Carl Acuff Jr. Variety Showband has become an American institution with a dynamite show, great costuming, music and comedy. The 2016 show features new and old country, gospel, comedy, nostalgic rock and roll, Motown, do-wop and disco.

Aug. 4 – Geology Rocks! Evening Program
Join Geologist Ken Ashton and learn about rocks, minerals and fossils. Learn about earth geology and look to the sky for other rocks in orbit. Event is free of charge and includes a geology hike scheduled for the next morning.

Aug. 6 – Terror of the Tug
Presented by McArts, Terror of the Tug is a play written by Jean Battlo and based on events in the life of Police Chief Sid Hatfield just after the Matewan Massacre, a notable event in the history of West Virginia and the history of labor relations in the United States.

Aug. 13 – Bil Lepp – Storyteller /Liar/Comedian/Humorist
Bil Lepp is a master storyteller and a champion liar. His humorous tales can curl the lips on just about anyone. Event is free of charge.

Aug. 20 – The Parachute Brigade
A Folk/Pop Rock band from Beckley, Parachute Brigade is a group of musicians and artists from various backgrounds coming together to enjoy music and life!

Aug. 27 – Rick K and the Allnighters
West Virginia native Rick K shares his enthusiasm and love of music with an ever-growing audience across the country. A distinctive vocal style and charismatic stage presence have earned Rick K and his band rave reviews at fairs, casinos and clubs.

Sept. 3 – Lilly Mountaineers
The award-winning Lilly Mountaineers, featuring brothers Daniel and Mark Lilly, have toured with national acts around the country and appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, carrying on the tradition started by their father, the legendary Everett Lilly.
