Shepherd University President Suzanne Shipley has been invited to participate in the 13th Transatlantic Dialogue to be held in Salzburg, Austria, July 4-7.

Sponsored by the American Council for Education (ACE), the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, and the European University Association, the conference, titled “Leading the Globally Engaged Institution—New Directions, Choice, and Dilemmas,” will gather a select group of Canadian, European, and U.S. presidents to discuss incentives, potential risks and benefits, and the constraints of internationalization across the three regions.

Shipley will serve as a facilitator for the panel discussion “Making the Case for Internationalization.” Her session will examine how institutional leaders launch a strategic discussion on internationalization inside the institution and with their external shareholders.

Shepherd began an internationalization initiative in conjunction with ACE in 2010 which resulted in the development of a 10-year strategic plan for campus internationalization, the establishment of a new core curriculum in fall 2011 that requires all students to have competencies in global understanding and multiculturalism and diversity, and culminated in a site visit in February 2012 by an external team from ACE.

Since 1989, ACE has engaged in a series of biannual meetings which discuss topics of interest to Canadian, European, and U.S. universities.
