Groundbreaking and excavation for a new medical office building on Tennessee Avenue across from City Hospital has begun.

West Virginia University Hospitals-East City Hospital Foundation, owner of the property, is leasing a portion of the 10-acre parcel to a Chicago based developer who is constructing a 45,000-square-foot medical office building on the property.

The development company, Healthcare Development Partners based in Chicago, Illinois, is working in conjunction with CD Smith Construction of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin, to construct the building.

City Hospital has committed to leasing approximately 12,500 square feet in the building for physician office space. “We also plan to relocate our lab and x-ray service currently on the first floor of the McCormack Center to the new building,” stated Teresa McCabe, vice president of marketing and development for WVUH-East.

Healthcare Development Partners is planning on leasing the balance of the building to local physicians. The expected completion date for the medical office building is late spring 2013.
