University Healthcare Board of Directors Chairman Richard Pill announced today that Anthony P. Zelenka, FACHE, has been named the system’s new president and chief executive officer.

For the past seven years, Zelenka has served as the president and chief operating officer at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg. In his new role, Zelenka is responsible for both University Healthcare hospitals, including Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson.

Zelenka joined University Healthcare in March 2008 with over 30 years of healthcare management experience. For the majority of his career, he worked for Washington Hospital in Washington, Pennsylvania, where he served as vice president of clinical support services and plant operations.

During his extensive healthcare career, Zelenka has managed a broad array of hospital service lines and been responsible for developing and implementing a number of strategic projects including quality and performance improvement, technology upgrades and construction and renovation.

Zelenka holds a Master of Health Administration from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Marietta College in Ohio. He also holds a certificate from the Executive Program in Healthcare Financial Management from The Ohio State University. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

“After careful thought and evaluation, our board and executive leadership determined that one person in charge of both hospitals would allow for a more efficient operation as a health system,” Pill said. “Given Tony’s impressive healthcare operational management background, we feel confident that he is the right person to lead University Healthcare and position our facilities for future growth.”
