University Healthcare Jefferson Medical Center recently participated in a Region 8/9 disaster drill. The mock simulation included decontamination and medical treatment of patients exposed to a chemical spill.

The hospital’s new decontamination tent, pictured above, can be deployed and ready to use by the hospital’s specially trained staff within five minutes of notification of an event. This new setup allows Jefferson Medical Center employees to safely decontaminate up to nine patients at a time while protecting themselves, the patient, and the environment.

Emergency Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for Jefferson Medical Center Jeff Jeffries states “Being able to offer this level of decontamination care during an emergency or disaster is another example of the commitment of Jefferson Medical Center and local counties to the safety and well-being of our residents.”

Staging drills for emergencies and disasters enables organizations to be better prepared for the unexpected.   Jefferson Medical Center participates in these drills with local EMS on a routine basis.
