Visit historic Beverly for the annual Old Fashioned Christmas on December 1. Festivities offered will include the Beverly Presbyterian Church Bazaar and lunch and holiday specials and sales at local businesses. Victorian Santa and caroling will add to the holiday splendor. In addition, Leslie Gordon will lead a basket weaving workshop for homemade holiday gift-giving at the Beverly Heritage Center.
“It’s nice to have such a variety of homemade items to choose from,” says Alison Thornton, a volunteer at the Beverly Heritage Center. “I like to shop local and Beverly’s Old Fashioned Christmas offers this in a traditional, Victorian setting.”
The Beverly Presbyterian Church will host its annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The church will serve homemade soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts and sell holiday gift baskets and baked goods.
Children will delight in Victorian Santa and caroling at the Beverly Heritage Center, which is stocked with gifts for children and adults. Santa will hear children’s wish lists and have candy to share.
Leslie Gordon will show participants in the basket weaving workshop how to make homemade wall baskets for the holidays. This workshop has a suggested $10 donation for supplies and materials, and will be held at the Beverly Heritage Center at 10 a.m. Please call ahead to reserve a slot in the workshop.
Unique gifts can be found at many of the Beverly businesses. Heritage gift items can be found at the Beverly Heritage Center. Handmade, local items are showcased at Back in Tyme. Cornucopia offers a variety of candles and home décor items, and has a whole room dedicated to Christmas cheer. Blossom Village will spruce up any home or event with holiday inspired floral arrangements.
The Historic Beverly Antique Mall, located in the historic Goff House, has unique items for the hard to buy for person, including jewelry, books, civil war memorabilia, furniture, and more. Historic Beverly Antiques also offers a room full of vintage Christmas decorations and gift items. The Chenoweth House Antiques and Museum showcases quality antique furniture, tools, and paper items.
The Elkins Farmers’ Market will join in the festivities by opening the doors of the IOOF Building. The vendors will have a wide range of items including jams, jellies, baked goods, arts and crafts, and more.
In keeping with the historic theme and holiday spirit, the Beverly Heritage Center will also host the Mountain Winds Trio. Richard Evans, Morris Kittle, and Linda Wolfersheim will perform Civil War era music at 10 a.m., with Pam Dodds joining them on the vintage melodeon. Everyone can join in singing Christmas carols at 3 p.m.
