West Liberty University is bringing the Hilltop to Wheeling as it seeks to assist in the downtown renaissance presently taking place.

“We are pleased to support the efforts of the City of Wheeling and its leaders as they look to reinvigorate downtown and we are leasing a space in the Horne’s Building that will allow us a convenient and high profile presence on Main Street, near the new offices of the Health Plan. We look forward to more announcements in the future about our downtown office,” said Dr. Stephen Greiner, WLU president.

Located at 1100 Main Street, the Horne’s Building was formerly a ladies’ retail store, well known in the Ohio Valley.

The cornerstone building now houses the Regional Economic Development Partnership (RED) and the Wheeling Nailers on the third floor; the Chamber of Commerce and a future Health Plan office on the second floor and the WLU Foundation, the IRS office and U.S. Rep. David B. McKinley’s office on the first floor.

A façade renovation is now taking place on the Horne’s Building, according to RED, which owns the building.

“We have updates in the works for WLU’s space on the first floor and we expect to have admission information and more available to the public at this location in the near future. We are looking forward to working with the community downtown and to increasing public access to West Liberty University’s many offerings and programs,” Dr. Greiner said.

Currently the West Liberty University Foundation has a satellite office in the WLU downtown center and the space is used for meetings.

President Stephen Greiner and his wife Nancy also are taking part in the Perkins Restaurants & Bakery Fantasy in Lights Parade, planned by the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce and getting started at 6:30  p.m. today. The Greiners will ride on the WLU official float in the number seven spot in the parade which includes about 90 spots. Other WLU parade participants include the Dental Hygiene Department with a float, the Hilltopper Cheerleaders, Hilltopper Dance Team and Topper the Bear.
