Inventors from across the Mountain State will gather October 11 on the Morgantown campus of West Virginia University (WVU) for the next meeting of the minds.

The fall gathering of the West Virginia Inventors Society (WVIS) will provide a forum for inventors at all stages of the development process to network, evaluate each other’s ideas, connect to entrepreneurial resources and potentially secure investors.

The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) at Marshall University joined with West Virginia Executive magazine and entrepreneurial businessmen Linwood Hamilton and Brian Joseph to launch the society earlier this year. More than 100 people attended the first two meetings, both in southern West Virginia.

“We decided to change the location this time to serve additional state residents who can’t necessarily make the drive to Charleston,” says Deacon Stone, director of the EDA University Center at RCBI. “We welcome everyone, whether you have an invention, an idea for an inventor or are just curious.”

In addition to West Virginia Executive, RCBI is offering the Morgantown gathering in coordination with strategic partners at WVU, who will serve as co-hosts.

The event will run from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall, located at 83 Beechurst Avenue in Morgantown.

The tentative agenda is as follows:

  • 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. – Live stream of the West Virginia Entrepreneurship Ecosystem monthly meeting
  • 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Tour of Reynolds Hall, home of WVU’s Chambers College of Business & Economic
  • 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Inventors share stories about their successful journeys
  • 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – WVU staff members highlight the services they offer inventors and entrepreneurs through the Encova Center, LaunchLab and Vantage Ventures
  • 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Networking reception

There is no cost to attend but registration is required at www.rcbi.org/WVInventorsOct2022.
