UnitedHealthcare  will administer the West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Agency’s (PEIA) health care benefits for the state’s covered employees and their families, effective July 1, 2019.

UnitedHealthcare, through its UMR third-party administration business, will collaborate with PEIA and its staff to manage the state’s health care benefits program, providing clinical, claims and member-advocacy services, including PEIA’s ongoing efforts to support its Comprehensive Care Partnership (CCP). Under this patient-centered medical home model, PEIA members may access preventive care and other health care services at little or no cost, depending on plan selected.

PEIA and its members will also realize substantial cost savings on approved out-of-state care through UnitedHealthcare’s national care provider network of more than 1.2 million physicians and care professionals and 6,500 hospitals and other care facilities.

“We look forward to collaborating with PEIA to help its members and their families access care to help them live healthier lives to make quality care more affordable for more people,” said Dan Schumacher, UnitedHealthcare president and chief operation officer. “As we expand in West Virginia, we will continue to work with state and local health and community-based organizations to help improve the health of residents throughout the state and its communities.”

To better support PEIA members and their families, UnitedHealthcare will open a member-support center in Charleston in early 2019. The center’s member-advocacy team will assist plan participants with routine care and benefits questions and other key care concerns, including choosing the right care, closing gaps in care and helping establish primary care provider relationships. Hiring for more than 100 employees at the center began in November 2018. To see job listings, visit https://careers.unitedhealthgroup.com.

UnitedHealthcare will continue to support West Virginians through its community nurse program, which includes wellness events and individual education/outreach, and introduce other programs as the relationship grows to help plan participants better manage their care.
