West Virginia State University (WVSU) today announced a first-of-its-kind global conference called “Solutions for Better Life” in collaboration with the University of Sharjah (UOS) in the United Arab Emirates. The conference will bring together world health experts along with high school and University students from 100 countries to identify innovative solutions to global health problems.

The “Solutions for Better Life” conference seeks to inspire young people to accept leadership responsibilities in the areas of world health. Working in groups, student participants will present their global health solutions in the areas of government, education, sports, science and technology and media to scholars and health experts in a competitive environment. Additionally, an academic symposium lead by scholars and health experts will include research findings, paper presentations, panel discussions and workshops in an effort to facilitate a global dialogue on health issues. A call for papers will be forthcoming later this month.

The Nov. 15-19, 2015, conference will be held at the UOS in Sharjah and is sponsored by The Tekha Group, a Dubai-based non-profit aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles across the world. The Tekha Group will award one WVSU Upward Bound student the opportunity to attend the conference. The Upward Bound program supports first-generation college-bound high school students.

“Solutions for Better Life” is the second collaboration between the two Universities. In 2013, WVSU Communication Studies Professors Dr. Robin Broughton and Dr. Tee Ford-Ahmed traveled to the United Arab Emirates with graduate students to shoot a short film. Students and faculty from both universities directed, produced and starred in the film, which is called “#Camels.”

More information regarding the “Solutions for Better Life” conference and call for papers will be available at www.wvstateu.edu.
