As you’ve gone about your daily life, there have been people behind the scenes who have made the future better than the past.

Take Kyung Won Lee. He sought out the “unseen and unheard” people around the country, told their stories and took their woes to the public.

Joel Newman has worked throughout his career to increase the safety and availability of food for a growing population.

Rouzbeh Yassini-Fard invented the cable modem, giving us all an inexpensive and fast route to the Internet.

All three graduated from West Virginia University. And all three point to their years here as a turning point in the journey that brought them success and all of us three incredible gifts.

See this video about all three as the University honored them by inducting them into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni.

Find out more about all of the academy’s inductees here.
