WVU Medicine welcomes infectious disease specialist

WVU Medicine East recently announced that Connie Smith, M.D., F.A.A.P., has joined WVU Medicine Infectious Diseases, operated by Berkeley Medical Center.

Dr. Smith, an infectious disease specialist, is a graduate of the WVU School of Pharmacy and the WVU School of Medicine in Morgantown, and completed her residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron and Akron General Medical center, both in Ohio.

In 2003, Smith completed a fellowship in infectious disease at the WVU School of Medicine/J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. For the past 18 years, she has been practicing infectious disease in the Winchester area. She is board certified in infectious disease, internal medicine and pediatrics.

A member of the medical staffs at Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center, Smith will serve as the medical director of infectious disease and employee health at both hospitals as well as an assistant professor for the WVU School of Medicine. Her special interests include general infectious diseases, inpatient/outpatient antibiotic management, travel medicine and HIV care.
