West Virginia University has been ranked 41st in the U.S. News & World Report’s inaugural Best Colleges for Veterans in the national universities category.
This ranking adds to a long list of WVU veterans achievements, including being named a military friendly school by G.I. Jobs Magazine for the fifth-consecutive year, as well as being ranked in Military Times’ “Best for Vets” list for 2013.
In total, there were 234 ranked schools across 10 U.S. News ranking categories. Scores were determined by graduation rate, faculty resources, reputation and academic quality.
To qualify for the rankings, schools had to be certified for the GI Bill and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, two federal initiatives that help veterans reduce the cost of schools. They also had to be members of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium, a group that works to simplify credit transfers.
More than 800 veterans, military personnel or their dependents are currently studying at WVU.
