The Mid-Ohio Valley community can now get a convenient, affordable start on their four-year degrees from West Virginia University (WVU) through a guaranteed admission agreement with WVU Parkersburg.

This partnership enables students to complete their initial one to two years at WVU Parkersburg before moving on to complete select four-year programs at WVU. Currently, WVU Parkersburg offers 19 bachelor degree majors and concentrations. The new agreement expands the number of options available to students.

WVU Provost Joyce McConnell, J.D., L.L.M., and WVU Parkersburg Interim Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Jane Milley signed the agreement in September. The purpose is to ease the transfer processes allowing for an efficient and effective transition from an associate’s degree to a baccalaureate degree. Programs with guaranteed admission at WVU include: engineering, agriculture, psychology, communications, history, sociology and anthropology, English, criminology and international studies.

The agreement outlines specific WVU Parkersburg courses students must take in order to transfer into 25 degree programs at WVU. In addition, students must have at least an overall 2.0 grade point average and must be in good standing academically to be admitted to WVU under this agreement.

“We are thrilled about this collaboration with WVU,” said WVU Parkersburg President Dr. Fletcher Lamkin. “This will open many doors – both for more partnerships between our institutions and for more exciting opportunities for our current and future students.”
