On Friday, April 25, 5th grade students will be arriving on the Marshall campus as part of a field trip with the Young Bankers Club, a program of Fifth Third Bank.

The students will arrive on campus at 9:45 a.m. and receive a welcome address from President Kopp, followed by a campus tour and lunch. The day will end with departure at 1 p.m.

The Young Bankers Club, now in its 9th year, was developed and is implemented by Fifth Third Bank, and recognizes the lasting value of teaching children about future educational opportunities, finances and personal responsibility.

Meeting with fifth-grade students one day a week for 10 weeks, trained Fifth Third mentors help children learn first-hand about the importance of saving money and becoming educated consumers.  The curriculum meets local and state educational standards in both mathematics and social studies.

Typically, during the Young Banker field trips, the children receive a tour of a banking center led by banking center staff.  They are given the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at banking careers and daily operations.  The intent of the field trip is to teach the children about the importance of saving and being financially sound.  The YBC students learn that there is a strong correlation between educational attainment, career paths, and financial stability.  However, today, the elementary students will get to tour a college campus instead, so that they can also learn about higher education.
