Charly Hamilton and students
Celebrated Appalachian artist Charly Hamilton is among the well-known artists who are collaborating with local students to support child-centered education in Charleston. Hamilton, along with Barrie Kaufman, Keeley Steele, Nancy Johnston and other teachers and artists, led classes at Mountaineer Montessori School (MMS) to create large-scale signature art pieces that will be auctioned at “Masquerade,” a fundraiser to be presented on Saturday, April 9, 7-10 p.m. at the University of Charleston.
The event benefits financial aid, teacher appreciation and specialty program funds at the school, located at 308 20th Street in Kanawha City and 804 Myrtle Road in South Hills.
The very Montessori evening invites guests to:
- Rock out to The Carpenter Ants and Steve Himes
- Reveal their creative side through artistic fun, mask-making and funky photo ops.
- Revel with wine and dessert tastings, light hors d’oeuvres, extensive live and silent auctions and more!
- Realize the promise for the next generation of business and community leaders.
In addition to the class art projects, students have made the gala decorations and masks for party guests.
