Philanthropy West Virginia announces its new board members and officers for 2019. The philanthropic leadership association represents over 80 foundations, corporate giving programs, united ways, philanthropists, and professional advisors in the Mountain State.
“Philanthropy West Virginia is fortunate to have a dynamic and extraordinary board of philanthropic leaders representing a diversity of grantmaking institutions, corporations, individual philanthropists, and professional advisors from across West Virginia,” shares Paul D. Daugherty, President & CEO of Philanthropy West Virginia.
Philanthropy WV is pleased to welcome its newest board member, Janell Ray, executive director of the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon & CEO of the Pallottine Foundation of Huntington. “Janell brings a tremendous background in finance, private foundations, and health grantmaking to our board,” noted Daugherty. Four philanthropy leaders from across West Virginia have been elected to serve as the board leadership team for Philanthropy West Virginia in 2019. The newly elected board officers include:
- Board Chair: Robert Orndorff, Managing Director of WV State & Local Affairs for Dominion Energy
- Board Vice-Chair: Samuel “Tres” Ross, III Executive Director of The Ross Foundation
- Board Treasurer: Dena Cushman, Executive Director of the Beckley Area Foundation
- Board Secretary: Marian Clowes, Senior Program Director of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (Photos attached)

Returning board members include: Robert “Bob” Boone, Dr. Michelle Foster, Mike Lewis, Susie Nelson, Sue Sergi, Adam Sanders, Patricia Watson, Michael Whalton, and David Ziegler. Philanthropy West Virginia supports and advances philanthropy and delivers professional development, collaboration, and policy advocacy for private, family, corporate, community, and public grantmaking foundations, corporations, united ways, professional advisors, and individual donors. The organization serves the board members, trustees, CEOs, staff, and advisors of the grantmaking organizations to improve their effectiveness and impact in fulfilling their missions.
