On Thursday, June 6, 2019 representatives from the West Virginia Gold Star Mothers Association and the WV National Guard Foundation received a donation of over 13,339 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. Donated by Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council through the Girl Scouts’ Gift of Caring Cookie Program, these cookies will be distributed to active military, veterans and military families across the region. Due to the hard work of our Girl Scouts and generosity of their cookie customers, almost 20% more cookies will be donated by the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council in 2019 than the previous year.
“Not only does our Cookie Program teach girls valuable life and money skills,” Beth Casey, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council said, but “it is also a way to teach them the value of giving back to those in need and those who serve and have served our country. We are proud to partner with these organizations to help bring smiles to our men and women in uniform, especially with the upcoming 4th of July holiday.”
Through the Gift of Caring Cookie Donation Program, Girl Scouts across the country encourage customers to show their appreciation for men and women in uniform by buying extra boxes of cookies. The donation program also allows customers who don’t purchase cookies for themselves the ability to support Girl Scouts while giving back to our service members.
“This project brings the communities of Girl Scouts and Veterans together,” said Shirley White, President of the West Virginia Gold Star Mothers. “It helps the girls to know that service and sacrifice to our country has a face and not just a page in a history book. The troops and veterans‘ organizations that are serviced in this project are very grateful. After all, who doesn’t like a Girl Scout cookie?”
