Rocco Morabito Jr., MD, FACS, has been designated as a UroLift® Center of Excellence. The designation recognizes that Dr. Morabito Jr. has achieved a high level of training and experience with the UroLift system and demonstrated a commitment to exemplary care for men suffering from symptoms associated with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH.

This is the second year in a row Morabito Jr. has received the designation.

“Prior to treating BPH with UroLift, men had limited options of medications or invasive surgery that could cause serious side effects,” Morabito Jr. said. “UroLift has been a game changer for my patients and has been extremely successful in discontinuing the use of BPH medications and getting back to what matters.”

Nearly 40 million men in the United States are affected by BPH. Not to be confused with prostate cancer, BPH occurs when the prostate gland that surrounds the male urethra becomes enlarged and begins to obstruct the urinary system. Symptoms of BPH often include interrupted sleep and urinary problems, and can cause loss of productivity, depression and decreased quality of life.

During the procedure, implants are inserted through the urethra and into the prostate to lift or hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way. This opens the urethra while leaving the prostate intact. The alternative to the UroLift System is surgery that cuts or ablates (burns) prostate tissue which increases recovery time and side effects. Medication is often the first-line therapy for enlarged prostate, but relief can be inadequate and temporary. Side effects of medication treatment can include sexual dysfunction, dizziness and headaches, prompting many patients to quit using the drugs.
