West Virginia upgraded the State’s Building Energy Code in 2013. Do you know what is now required, how it can help reduce operating costs and increase the value of the building? This new workshop is for you.

You will learn how to calculate your building energy use and score and compare it with other buildings. Also, find out what the new ASHRAE 90.1-2007 code requires, who will enforce the code and what they could look for. Other subjects will include building energy modeling, available rebates for upgrades, dynamic building commissioning and where to go for help/assistance/consultants.

This workshop will be of interest to owners, facility managers, designers (architects, engineers), contractors, code officials, appraisers, real estate agents, real estate attorneys and city sustainability leaders.

The workshop will be offered in four locations: Wheeling May 19, Charleston May 20, Beckley May 22 and Huntington May 23. Workshops are from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by lunch and open discussion. Four hours of continuing education attendance is awarded if requested. The cost is $10. The capacity is limited so sign up early to get a seat.

Workshop instructors are Dr. Ken Means, P.E. and Art Hallstrom, P.E. Dr. Means is a Full Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dept. Member of ASHRAE, SAE, ASME. Mr. Hallstrom is President of AD Hall, an ASHRAE Fellow, Member of AEE, ACFEI, and MOAA. He is a WV ASHRAE Board Member and teaches the energy code to the WV Code Officials Association.

Attendees will be able to purchase a printed copy of the current code, ASHRAE 90.1-2007/IECC 2009 for $62 (a 50 percent savings from list price). Attendees can also get free e-copies of the ASHRAE Advanced Energy Design Guides and the ASHRAE Indoor Air Quality Guide.
