Governor Earl Ray Tomblin today announced Cole Hand and Alston Spears, two West Virginia junior golfers, will participate alongside professional golfers at this year’s Greenbrier Classic.

“Cole and Alston are extremely hardworking and talented golfers,” Gov. Tomblin said. “These junior competitors have already achieved so much in their short careers and I look forward to seeing them compete at the Greenbrier Classic.”

Hand and Spears were invited to play in the practice rounds and Pro-Am of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup event at The Greenbrier. Both are junior golf members of the West Virginia Golf Association.

Hand, a resident of Wheeling, attends Wheeling Park High School. A straight-A student, he is captain of the Wheeling Park High Golf Team and a Class AAA State Medalist. He played on the Mid-Atlantic Jr. Invitational team in 2011-2013 representing West Virginia.

Spears, a resident of Spencer, is a 2014 graduate of Roane County High School and will attend West Liberty University in the fall, where he will be a member of the Hilltopper Golf Team.

The official PGA Tour FedEx Cup event returns to The Greenbrier June 30 through July 6 with a field of 156 world-renowned golfers vying for a $6.5 million purse.
