University Healthcare Berkeley Medical Center has been awarded Accreditation with Commendation for six years as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians by the West Virginia State Medical Association and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

Accreditation with Commendation is awarded to providers that demonstrate compliance in each of the ACCME’s 22 accreditation criteria. This is the highest level of accreditation in the state and national continuing medical education system, achieved by approximately 21 percent of ACCME-accredited providers nationwide.  Berkeley Medical Center is one of only three CME providers in West Virginia to achieve this honorable distinction.

“This achievement is a testament to the medical community that Berkeley Medical Center is dedicated to providing our physicians with valuable CME opportunities that promote change and quality improvement,” stated Anthony P. Zelenka, president and chief operating officer.   “Our CME Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. James Brown and Physician Education Coordinator Carol Joseph, has done exemplary work. We are extremely proud of this achievement,” Zelenka said.

ACCME accreditation is a voluntary, self-regulatory system that assures the public and the medical community that accredited CME is a strategic partner in health care quality and safety initiatives, providing physicians with relevant, effective education that meets their learning and practice needs. Berkeley Medical Center has received accreditation from the ACCME for the past 29 years.
