Clear Mountain Bank has appointed Roger Metheny, the bank’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, to serve as interim chief executive officer following the death of Brian F. Thomas on August 31.  In an unrelated announcement, the bank also stated that Randall Underwood has been promoted to the position of chief banking officer.

“We’re very fortunate to have Roger step up to lead Clear Mountain Bank on an interim basis,” said Roger Hardesty, chairman of Clear Mountain Bank’s board of directors.  “He has tremendous banking knowledge and experience, and he understands the communities that the bank serves.  His leadership, along with the strong management team we have in place, will allow us to continue to serve our customers with the high quality service they’ve come to expect from Clear Mountain Bank.”

Metheny has worked for Clear Mountain Bank since 1980.  He is a native of Tunnelton, and is a graduate of Fairmont State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  In addition to his current role as executive vice president and chief financial officer, Metheny has also held the positions of auditor, controller, and loan administrator during his career.  He is also a member of the bank’s board of directors.

Metheny is active with many community organizations, including currently serving on the board of directors for Preston Memorial Hospital and serving as chairman of the board’s finance committee.  He also serves on the board of directors for Mon Health System.  Metheny is a member of Reedsville United Methodist Church and serves as chairman of the church’s finance committee.

Metheny stated that the promotion of Underwood to the chief banking officer position has been in process for several weeks.

“Brian Thomas had actually been finalizing promoting Randall to chief banking officer before he passed away,” said Metheny.  “Randall is a great asset to Clear Mountain Bank, and we’re glad to be able to promote him to CBO.”

Underwood has more than 40 years of experience in the banking industry, and most recently served as Clear Mountain Bank’s chief lending officer.  He has worked in many different capacities during his career, including formerly serving as president and CEO of two community banks in central West Virginia.  A native of Webster Springs, he is a graduate of Glenville State College, the West Virginia School of Banking, the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, and the Mellon Bank Concentrated School of Banking.

In his new position, Underwood will be responsible to oversee the strategic direction of the sales, customer service, and operations functions for the commercial, retail, mortgages and investments departments of the bank.

Underwood currently resides in Morgantown and is active with many community organizations, including serving on the board of directors of the Morgantown Area Economic Partnership, and on the government affairs committee for the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce.  He formerly served on the Elkins Rotary Club, Randolph County Development Authority, and as president of the Webster Springs Area Chamber of Commerce and the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce.
