Clear Mountain Bank has named Walter Whitehair as director emeritus in recognition of 54 years of service and dedication to the bank, according to Brian F. Thomas, president and CEO.

“Walter has been a tremendous asset to our organization over the years,” said Thomas.  “He is a trusted member of the Clear Mountain Bank family, and his wisdom and understanding of the local community have played a vital role in helping our bank grow.  We can’t thank him enough for his years of dedicated service.”

Mr. Whitehair began serving on the board of directors for The Terra Alta Bank in 1962 and served as chairman of the board from 2003 – 2005.  He continued to serve on the board through The Terra Alta Bank’s combination with Bruceton Bank in 2005, creating Clear Mountain Bank.  At the beginning of his tenure, The Terra Alta Bank had one branch location and less than $10 million in assets.  Today, Clear Mountain Bank has grown to 13 locations and $520 million in assets.

“We’re pleased that Walter will remain connected to the bank as director emeritus,” said Roger Hardesty, chairman of the bank’s board of directors.  “He helped guide us to where we are today, and the impact of his service will be felt for many years to come.”

Whitehair is a life-long resident of Preston County and was a self-employed farmer and entrepreneur for many years. He raised cattle and horses on his farm, and he was a fixture at local horse shows.  Whitehair has been active with various community organizations during his career.  He formerly served on the Mountain Lions Club in Aurora and is a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren in Oakland.  He and his wife Jeanne have four children, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Clear Mountain Bank is a locally-owned and managed community bank serving north-central West Virginia and western Maryland.  Clear Mountain Bank offers a comprehensive array of banking services.  The company is a leader in providing electronic banking services, including mobile banking and remote deposit.
